The Spiritual Theories of Halloween & How To Celebrate

Are you curious about the history of Halloween? Have you heard the rumors that Halloween is a time when you can connect spirits? It’s all true.

Halloween was originally known as Samhain (sow-in) in Celtic past & was celebrated as the changing of seasons to the dark half of the year & also when the veil between two worlds is lifted.

Halloween can be felt as creepy because it becomes darker earlier in the day, colder & masks hide the identity of celebrants. But the myth stands that “Samhain was seen as a liminal time, when the boundary between this world and the Otherworld could more easily be crossed. This meant the Aos Sí, the ‘spirits’ or ‘fairies‘, could more easily come into our world.”

Perhaps we can feel this shift in the veil between worlds and the presence of these “spirits”. This doesn’t have to scary or creepy. In fact it can a time to pay homage to our Ancestors, who may or may not be with us on Halloween.

You can celebrate Halloween / Samhain this year by saying a prayer for your loved ones past. To create a simple ritual, light a candle & recite the prayer below.

A Pray for your Ancestors by Dandelionlady

Most Ancient Ones, I call back through the vast reaches of time to you!
Back through recorded history,
Before the Romans fought and fell: City, Republic, and Empire
Before the fertile lands between the Euphrates and the Tigris were cultivated and cultures rich and vast sprang up.
Before the taming of the wild steppe horses,
Before the land bridge to the Americas was crossed,
Before all these things you were there.

We do not forget you this day, most ancient ones.
You are us, and we are you, our DNA the same as yours.
Your minds bright and shining, your words clever, your hands working just as ours.
We thank you for your gifts and we thank you for your survival.
We are you, come back again, building on your work through the shifting sands of time.
Most ancient ones, homo sapiens, please accept our offering!

Thanks for dropping by today!

Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
