Sacred Menstruation – The Red & White Moon Cycles

Understanding your Sacred Menstruation

I have the pleasure of being connected to so many women & have them trust with questions about their menstrual cycles. On Instagram, I share almost daily about my own menstrual cycle, the Moon, & how they effect effect me. It’s my passion to share this knowledge with all women, to help them connect to themselves, their cycles, the cycles of Earth & Moon, & the ancient wisdom & practices the people of Earth so clearly need.

Here is a quick break down of the Red & White Moon Cycles

The mysteries of your body are intrinsically connected to the energy of the moon – a magical alliance. There are two main cycles uncovered by our ancestors. These cycles occur in combination of a woman’s menstrual cycle and the phases of the moon. Read the following to uncover the cycle your body most relates too. In your lifetime you will experience both cycles as your transition & your life & ambitions change.

The Red Moon Cycle

When a woman begins bleeding closest to the Full Moon & is fertile with the New Moon, she is on the Red Moon Cycle. The Red Moon Cycle is associated with the archetype of the Wise Woman. The Wise Woman was the shaman & the healer of her tribe. Her focus was not on motherhood but on the well-being of her tribe & passing on the ancient wisdom which was passed down to her. A woman who is on the Red Moon Cycle will experience a surge of energy mixed with anxiousness & tension during the Full Moon. This powerful energy can be honed in to empower her own creative endeavours. Meditation & stress-relieving techniques can be used to keep a level head during this powerful time. A woman, who is harnessing the energy of her Red Moon, is focused on self-actualization, building her empire, empowering women, & gaining wisdom through education.

The White Moon Cycle

When a woman begins bleeding nearest to the New Moon & is fertile during the Full Moon, she is on the White Moon Cycle. This follows the natural cycle of the Earth, being most fertile with the Full Moon &, similar to the Earth, ready to receive seed. This cycle is traditionally associated with the archetype of the Mother. The archetype of the Mother is not necessarily the literal Mother, though in some cases, with some women it is. Often, a woman on the White Moon Cycle feels the need to nurture. She may nurture a human baby, fur baby or create a nest within her home. She will have a surge of intuition with her bleed, feeling energetically tapped out with a need to withdraw, to reflect, & restore. The New Moon may zap some of her energy though by the Full Moon she will shine in full illumination with seemingly boundless energy, motivation, with love & support for everyone around her.

I’d must check with you here. Which isn’t something I usually do! I take pleasure in reading a put up that may make individuals think. Also, thanks for permitting me to remark!

Hi Alicia,
What an empowering insight into the nature of the different cycles!
Until coming across this post I believed myself to be ‘out of sync’ and, despite the absolute regularity of my cycle, I’ve been considering using seed cycling based on the lunar cycle (rather than the onset of my bleed) to ‘correct’ my flow to coincide with the new moon!!
Thank you for sharing this ancient wisdom which brought me to acknowledge, as usual, my body is much more in tune than I give it credit for – self-actualization//developing my shamanic capacities is precisely where my focus is!
Just wanted to ask if you had any advice to offer on whether a Wise Woman would be better served to devote a specific time of her cycle to withdraw/reflect/restore (as the White Cyle calls a woman to do at the new moon) and when is the most powerful time to do so? Or if perhaps the Red Cycle asks one to do so at a particular time daily or weekly, rather than monthly?
I’ve finally given up trying to ‘control’ and adjust all the external factors to get myself to fall into a more fluid rhythm but it’s proving impossible to chart a pattern to my moods, energy, motivation – which are all over the place!
I am wantting to harness the power of ritual and intentionally align that which I devote my time to do with the cycles of nature (such as the ‘phases of creation’ described by Kate Northrup) in order to better channel the energy I have access to but, trying to reconcile an increasingly busy life with a Red Moon cycle.. I can’t understand how I should set the intention for my schedule – if the most powerful time to withdraw/reflact/take time to intuit my next steps/download from source (which I strongly feel to do All The Time) is made even more powerful by the full moon during my bleed ‘filling the tide’, so to speak.. if the opposite is true and I should honour the new moon as a time to connect with the field more deeply.. or if at this time I would be better served by ‘short bursts’ rather than a deeper monthly ‘retreat’?
I would adore to hear any thoughts you have on this.

Hey Sara! So glad this post could help you feel into your own unique cycle, which is defintiely the point of the post.
As for the Wise Woman, Red Moon bleeding, you will actually have two times to wield your power, being the New Moon and the Full Moon. These are two different energies, especially when mixed with your menstrual cycle.
The New Moon, your ovulation, will be a good time to dream up big ideas, in all areas of life, and get out and explore the world. The Full Moon, your bleed, will be the best time for your to create. You will be creating from your Crone, your Wise Woman, combining the intensity of the Full Moon and of your bleed. While the rest of the world gets out to be wild and explorative, the Full Moon will be a time for you to stay in and create.

Wow Alicia! Thanks! 🀩πŸ₯³πŸ˜˜
That is Exactly the kind of information I was hoping for, and, in a super clear and easy way, no less, to understand along what guidelines to be conscious of/’schedule’ my time!!
(I Would send you an email to discuss further.. but I, er.. can’t seem to find one πŸ˜…)

Thank you I found this interesting. It’s a topic still rarely spoken about. I know women feel more pain (in the tattoo shop) when they are already bleeding. Do you thing sacred medicines should be taken at this time or would they create more drain & not power? I can find no info on this, that has been written by a non-man?

Hey Mel! In my experience and opinion, bleeding is not an ideal time for sacred medicines. This is a time to restore and renew, the body and mind are needing a nourishing break.
It is more likely to have a stressful ‘trip’ during this time. πŸ’œ
